Newcastle are currently in an unfamiliar high place in the premiership not held for many years now. However the toon army have yet to play either of the Manchester clubs or Chelsea and the mettle of their seasons prospects will be seen from the results in those matches. Alan Pardew helped the geordies retain their premiership status last season and finished mid table. If he can move them on to at least challenge for europa league places then he will be a much loved figure on Tyneside.
