Mark Clattenburg Referee Racism Allegation Storm in Chelsea vs Manchester United Match

-->

Referee of Sunday's thrilling 3-2 win for Manchester United over Chelsea is at the centre of a racism complaint lodged by Chelsea towards the FA. It has been alleged by Chelsea players that he referred to Spanish midfielder Juan Mata as a "Spanish Tw*t" and had a racially charged exchange with player John Obi Mikel when booking the midfielder in the match.

If found guilty of this abusive language, the referee could face dire consequences from the FA and all this on the back of Rio and Anton Ferdinand reinstating their support of the "Kick It Out" anti racism appeal and Rio Ferdinand shaking Ashley Cole's hand before the match to draw a line under the John Terry racism storm.

There has been such an uproar over the past year with racism in the game that another issue is a depressing reminder that it is an element in the game and in society which is hard to completely eradicate.

It is also important to note that Chelsea were upset in a couple of Clattenburg's poor decisions in the match which lead to Fernando Torres being sent off for diving, which many will feel was harsh, and for Javier Hernandez's goal which shows the striker as marginally offside.
